DOWSIL OS2

Main features

Product Description

DOWSIL™ OS-2 Fluid is a one-part, clear, colorless methyl siloxane specialty fluid used as a mild cleaner, silicone solvent and process carrier. Its low surface tension and compatibility with most plastics and surface coatings support cleaning of multi-material parts and delicate coated surfaces, subject to compatibility testing. The fluid can be used to rinse parts after stronger cleaners, applied by spray or immersion, or impregnated into wipes for light contamination. It also serves as a solvent or carrier for silicone oils and greases and as an alternative to hydrocarbon carriers in selected industrial and consumer formulations. After cleaning, it evaporates completely without leaving a silicone trace, supporting subsequent painting or bonding. Typical density is 0.78 g/cm³, dynamic viscosity is 0.59 cP and shelf life is five years at 25°C.

Key features

  • Broad surface compatibility: Compatible with most plastics and surface coatings, including delicate coatings, subject to verification on the actual surface.
  • Multiple cleaning methods: Suitable for immersion, spray application and impregnated wipes according to the part and contamination level.
  • Silicone soil removal: Functions as an effective solvent for nonvolatile silicone materials.
  • Downstream process support: Evaporates completely without leaving a silicone trace so cleaned surfaces can proceed to painting or bonding.
  • Low-viscosity fluid: Typical dynamic viscosity is 0.59 cP, with low surface tension for spreading across surfaces.

Applications / Suitable for

  • Rinsing parts after cleaning with stronger cleaning agents
  • Impregnating wipes where more aggressive solvents cannot be used
  • Carrying materials in selected industrial processes
  • Alternative carrier to hydrocarbon solvents in selected consumer product formulations
  • Solvent or carrier for silicone oils and greases
  • Cleaning contaminated surfaces before painting or bonding

DOWSIL™ OS-2 Fluid

DOWSIL™ OS-2 Fluid is a one-part methyl siloxane specialty fluid for mild cleaning, surface preparation and carrier applications. It is clear and colorless, has low surface tension, and is compatible with most plastics and surface coatings. The fluid can remove nonvolatile silicone contamination and evaporates completely, enabling cleaned surfaces to proceed to painting or bonding after compatibility verification.

Cleaning and application

Select the cleaning method according to soil level, part geometry and surface sensitivity. Verify compatibility on the actual surface before broader use, particularly where multiple materials or delicate coatings are present.

Immersion or spray: Immerse parts with vigorous action or apply the fluid by spray to lift soils from the surface.
Light contamination: Wipe components with tissues impregnated with the fluid where more aggressive solvents are not suitable.
Silicone contamination: Use the fluid as a solvent for nonvolatile silicone materials and as a carrier for silicone oils or greases.
Before painting or bonding: Allow the fluid to evaporate completely before the next process step; cleaned surfaces can then proceed to coating or bonding.

Supported cleaning methods include immersion with vigorous action, spray application and wiping lightly contaminated parts with impregnated tissues.

Storage and Handling

Shelf life is five years when stored at 25°C. Keep the container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place away from heat and ignition sources. Because the fluid is a Category 2 flammable liquid and can accumulate static charge, use suitable grounding, bonding, non-sparking tools and explosion-proof ventilation as required by the process. Review the current safety data sheet and container label before handling.

Applications

Applications for DOWSIL™ OS-2 Fluid

DOWSIL™ OS-2 Fluid supports cleaning, surface-preparation and carrier applications where a mild, low-viscosity methyl siloxane fluid is appropriate. Compatibility should be verified on the actual substrates, coatings and process materials before broader use.

Industrial parts being cleaned by immersion or spray with a clear specialty fluid
Parts cleaning and post-cleaning rinse
Parts may be immersed with vigorous action or cleaned by spray to lift soils from their surfaces. The fluid can also be used to rinse parts after stronger cleaning agents or applied through impregnated tissues for lightly contaminated components.
Contaminated component surface being prepared before painting or adhesive bonding
Surface preparation before painting or bonding
The fluid can remove nonvolatile silicone contamination from surfaces. It evaporates completely without leaving a silicone trace, allowing cleaned surfaces to proceed to coating or bonding after compatibility has been verified.
Industrial process equipment using a clear silicone fluid as a solvent or material carrier
Process solvent and carrier applications
The fluid can be evaluated as a carrier in selected industrial processes, as an alternative to hydrocarbon solvents in selected consumer product formulations, and as a solvent or carrier for silicone oils and greases.
